Welcome to our hearth this night
Join with us now, to pursue delight
In presence of the Gods of Old
Seek with us, mysteries untold
The epic battle we will witness a-gain
To see if the Holly or Oak will remain
As one King's defeated, another is crowned
The cycle of life once more comes around.
So, to enter, this sacred space
Set aside despair, and peace embrace
Release your worries, stress, and fear
In perfect love and trust, we welcome you here
On this dark, midwinter's eve
Join in the magick, we will weave
As we celebrate, through this long night
Welcome back, the new born
What awaits you inside is sure to delight,
But before you engage I must be forthright.
You shall enter only of your own free will,
May you gain what you need, be it knowledge or skill.
To those who will join you in circle tonight,
You may hold no grudge and forget your fights.
With love and joy you must enter,
As we take this time to ground and centre.
When you shake off the slights of the mundane,
You shall reap the wisdom of joining the arcane.
If it is of your own free will – please follow me.
The wind blows and things change
I call you now to the hills
To cowans eyes we seem so strange
Here as we gather to unite our wills
You are called now to this circles rim
Before entering you must release
Pain and anger dire and grim
Instead embrace love and peace
Many struggles we each have faced
And new ones we must face within
It matters not the cord round your waist
Within this circle we are all kin
If it is your will, be now bold
Stride within this circles space
And feel the Goddess love enfold
And our lord fill you with his grace
If it is of your own free will and you are ready
Halt, all you who will draw near;
beware of what lies before you,
for surely it is different to what you would leave behind.
Listen, then, to these words
that you may choose the path you wish to tread.
With full understanding or unwittingly, you would flee your fetters;
in place of bondage, you desire freedom.
Know this, therefore, for it is wisdom:
There is no bondage, no flight, no freedom,
nor binding in fetters nor loosing therefrom.
The one remains always the shadow of the other,
a reflection as of the moon on the water,
an echo of a footfall in the dark wood.
Listen again and learn.
Just as your shadow is forever joined to your heel,
as your face looks back at you from the sacred pool,
and your footstep disturbs the silence of the grove,
know with equal certainty that you are yoked to your master,
for you are both your own master and slave.
Will you call yourself master or slave of your life?
Listen one final time. I tell you a mystery:
In the service of the gods lies perfect freedom,
a freedom born of love without compulsion.
You have fled to this place.
You stand at the edge of the sacred grove shrouded in darkness.
Choose now whether you will set out
on the path that leads from darkness to light
and to perfect freedom in service.
Choose! Choose now!
If it be your will,
follow me now between the worlds
to the hidden place wherein the gods await.
