For those looking to craft along at home, you will need.
Required (per 5 oz. candle):
- Paper towel or newspaper (to cover work area and protect it from messy wax)
- Approximately 200 g (.45 oz) soy wax – by weight.
- 1 heat-safe container – metal, glass, etc.,
- 1 wick with metal base (tall enough to fit container plus approximately ¼” more
- 1 pouring pot (eg: small, metal teapot)
- Small crockpot, dip warmer, double-boiler, or small pot with metal rack that fits inside
- 1 meat or candy thermometer (to check temperature of wax when heating/cooling)
- Wooden craft stick or metal stirrer
Optional (per 5 oz. candle):
- Clear, double-sided adhesive “dot” to hold wick in place in bottom of container
- Wick holder (or pencil & tape) – to keep wick straight and centred in candle until wax sets.
- Fragrance or essential oil (approx. 10 drops per candle); a good rule of thumb here is 1 fluid oz of fragrance or essential oil per 1 lb of wax (1 tbsp = .5 oz)
- Food colouring – approximately 25 drops
